The opportunity

We’re helping Specsavers identify where it can reduce waste, retain more value in materials and products, and turn those opportunities into practical changes across the business.

How Canopy helped

Finding where to focus

Specsavers wanted to understand how more circular ways of working could support its environmental goals and improve business performance. Building on its carbon footprint, product life cycle assessments and existing sustainability work, the next step was to look across the business and identify the circular opportunities with the greatest potential.

We worked with Specsavers colleagues to map how materials and resources move through the business, exploring where value could be retained through reducing use, keeping products and equipment in use, and recovering materials.

Building priorities together

We combined data analysis with conversations across business areas to identify opportunities and assess their potential. Working sessions helped the team weigh the benefits and feasibility and agree where to focus.

The work identified five key priorities that we helped convert into project opportunities. And established a way of working to identify and prioritise opportunities in future.

Staying close to delivery

We’re now supporting Specsavers to develop and implement key opportunities. This includes bringing colleagues together, building business cases and plans, clarifying actions and helping to integrate them into business planning.

We’ve also helped develop measures to assess the value of circularity activities and track progress, connecting environmental improvements with costs and wider business benefits.

The work has given Specsavers a clearer set of priorities for circular action.

We’re continuing to support the team as it develops and implements key opportunities.
